# Anatomy expansion — source credits and integration notes

These files contain **real, licensed adult reference anatomy** selected from BodyParts3D and the Human Reference Atlas. They are simplified source meshes, not generated or hand-invented anatomy. All files are conventional glTF 2.0 GLB with embedded geometry, float32 positions/normals, standard materials, and no decoder extension requirements.

## Male reference

The male derivatives were downloaded from Human Body Explorer, whose original adaptations selected and grouped structures, assigned labels/material colors, and compressed geometry. [Per-model attribution and license record](https://app.humanbodyexplorer.com/model-attribution.html).

- `male-skeleton.glb`, `male-muscles.glb`, `male-nerves.glb`, `male-bladder.glb`, `male-prostate.glb`, `male-pancreas.glb`, `male-spleen.glb`, `male-gallbladder.glb`, and `male-diaphragm.glb`: **CC BY 4.0**.
- `male-reproductive.glb`: **BodyParts3D, Copyright © 2008 The Database Center for Life Science, licensed under [Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.1 Japan](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.1/jp/).** This v3-derived model and its adapted geometry retain that license. Independent viewer code is separate.

Source URL pattern: `https://app.humanbodyexplorer.com/assets/models/atlas_{source}.glb`; exact per-file URL and license are in `manifest.json` and embedded GLB asset metadata.

## Female reference

### Brain component

**Browne, Kristen, and Heidi Schlehlein. 2024. _3D Reference Organ for Brain, Female v1.4_. HuBMAP. [DOI:10.48539/HBM674.NTLM.353](https://doi.org/10.48539/HBM674.NTLM.353). CC BY 4.0. Based on the Allen Human Brain Reference Atlas; Ding et al. 2016, [DOI:10.1002/cne.24080](https://doi.org/10.1002/cne.24080).**

HRA mirrored structures from one hemisphere and resized the brain to fit the female assembly. This is a separate 34-year-old female reference donor, not the Visible Human female donor. HRA brain-specific [metadata](https://cdn.humanatlas.io/digital-objects/ref-organ/brain-female/v1.4/metadata.json) documents the model's relicensing to CC BY 4.0 at v1.3; [NIH entry](https://3d.nih.gov/entries/20959) documents that adaptation. ## Adaptations in this bundle

Safouan adaptation: selected source structures, decoded compressed source geometry where needed, baked source hierarchy transforms, uniformly converted coordinates, welded coincident positions, simplified geometry with quadric-error decimation, recomputed smooth vertex normals, retained source mesh names, and added machine-readable grouping/provenance metadata. Female body surface uses a neutral teaching material. No donor anatomy was morphed, invented, or fitted to the other sex.

## Coordinates

Vertices are already transformed. **1 unit = 10 cm. +X points to the patient's anatomical left; +Y toward the head; +Z anteriorly.**

- Male: source millimeters `(x,y,z)` → `(x,z,-y) × 0.01`, matching the site's existing BodyParts3D organ assets exactly.
- Female: source meters `(x,y,z)` → `(10x, 10y + 7.2, 10z + 1.5)` after baking HRA hierarchy transforms. This preserves her natural proportions and posture. Her skin spans approximately y = −0.726 to 15.852; the same existing viewer scale and offset can be used.
- Keep each sex's assets in their shared coordinate space. Do not individually recenter organs. Do not overlay male organs as though they came from the female reference.

## Coverage limits to keep visible

- These are **adult anatomical references**, not child bodies.
- Female source has a complete outer body surface and selected internal structures. Its skeleton is **partial**: spine, sternum, sacrum/coccyx, ilia, and leg bones; no skull, ribcage, upper-limb/foot skeleton, or pubis/ischium in this selected release.
- A full female muscle layer and female stomach are not provided by the selected source. Do not relabel male parts as female substitutes.
- `male-nerves.glb` contains **cranial/orbital nerves only**, not the entire peripheral nervous system. The female set separately supplies its source spinal cord.
- Reproductive selection excludes placenta/umbilical pregnancy structures. Female vagina, cervix/uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes remain individually source-named meshes. Male testes, epididymides, deferent ducts, seminal vesicles and penis structures remain individually source-named meshes.
- `manifest.json` records every file, source, license, bound, hash, coverage note and mesh grouping. Mesh `extras` retain original `sourceName` and `labelEN`, plus `groupId`, `organId`, `sex`, and `system`.

Publish the 24 `.glb` files, `manifest.json` and this attribution file. Raw source downloads, processing scripts, per-file QA JSON and preview PNG are research intermediates and need not be deployed.
